The Route
Edinburgh's New Year Celebrations, 2013 began with a torchlight procession
to Calton Hill followed by fireworks on the hill, on the evening of 30
December.
In recent years, the route for the procession has
been:
- City Chambers in the High Street
- The Mound, Princes Street
- Waterloo Place, Regent Road
- Calton Hill.
However, the route taken this year was:
- Chamber Street, outside the Museum of
Scotland
- South Bridge, North Bridge
- Waterloo Place, Regent Road
- Calton Hill.
The Participants
This
year saw a record number of participants in the procession. This
resulted in the hill being declared 'full' before all the torchbearers
reached it.
Photos 3
and 4 below show some of those in the procession who failed to reach the
top of the hill looking up from Regent Road and enjoying the fireworks
being launched from the top of the hill.
