Carved stone fish on the Beach

The Location

This view looks to the NW across the Firth of Forth, towards the coast of Fife on the northern side of the firth, about five miles away.

The Island in the firth is Cramond Island.  It can be reached on foot along a causeway beside the concrete posts. seen in the centre of this photo, for a couple of hours either side of low tide,

This photo was taken about four hours after low tide, on a fine July morning in 2009.

The Sculpture

This 8 tonne carved stone fish is the latest addition to the beach between Cramond and Silverknowes.  It is a sculpture created by Ronald Rae.  It stood in Holyrood Park, close to the Scottish Parliament then more recently was loaned to British Waterways and put on display beside the Falkirk Wheel.

Cramond Community Council raised £35,000 to bring the sculpture to the beach at Cramond.
