Thank you to Kenneth for allowing me to
reproduce the photos above.

"All I know is that the
great-grandfather of the person who gave me this invitation worked on the
railway and this invitation and other items were found amongst his papers.
I have the feeling that the
invitations were 'spare' as there is no name on the card.
I also have a picture taken, I
think at Cowlairs, Glasgow , showing the NB loco that pulled the Royal
Train. You can clearly see the Prince of Wales Feathers on the
splasher.

Invitation to Provost Macpherson |
Provost Macpherson
The invitation above may be a
'spare' that was never issued.
However, here is one from the
collection of David Gordon, Edinburgh, that was issued to a Provost
Macpherson.
Might this have been Alexander MacPherson, Provost of Kingussie
(b.1839) whose life and work is mentioned on several web sites,
including the Sonasmor
'Macpherson Electronic Museum' web site. |
Notes:
1. Kingussie lies about 75 miles north of the Forth
Bridge, on the main railway line to Inverness.
2. 'Sonas Mor' is Gaelic for 'Great Happiness'
3. The invitation to Provost Macpherson (below) is
similar to the one at the top of this page, but I was not able to get a
good colour photo of it, so I have reproduced it in black and white. |
