The Afternoon's Entertainment The 2013 Edinburgh Canal Festival was held on a warm summer afternoon, far better than the 2012 Festival held in cold wet weather, at which I took no photos. This quite a contrast to the cold wet weather for the 2012. The 2013 Festival included: - Stage entertainment - Little Love and the Friendly Vibes - Spells Tower - The Ringos - Matthew T Hicks - Lara's Belly Dancers - Wounded Knee - The Gnorms - Raft Race - Heats and Final - Canoe Display - Canoe Polo - Free Boat Trips - International Rescue Display - Model Boats Exhibition - Art Exhibition - Bike Obstacle Course - Bouncy Castle - Stalls for local groups - Grove Community Garden Tour - Murals, including Canal Scenes - from local schools - Information Panels - telling the history of the canal and industry in Fountainbridge |

The Rafts In previous years, there have been some very creative designs of barge., such as the one below. These barges may not have stood much chance of winning the race, but they made a good spectacle.
Wedding Car Some of the barges in 2013 covered the course quickly, but I did not notice any very spectacular designs this year. Are there any prizes for 'Style', as well as for 'First past the Post'? If not, perhaps that's something that the festival organisers might like to consider for future festivals. |
