The former GPO at the East End
of Princes Street has been converted to offices. The building now
has a new glass-walled interior and the stonework on the outside of the
building has been restored.
Here is the western wall,
facing onto North Bridge. The picture was taken, looking up
at the building (with its new urns in place at the top of the stonework)
from the upper deck of an open-top bus in August 2007.
Many parts of Edinburgh are
looking much cleaner, as the heavy deposits of soot have been removed from
the buildings. The air is cleaner now, with little heavy industry
and no coal fires. |
