Lauriston Castle

This is one of many photos that I took when I visited Lauriston Castle on October 18, 2011.

The Daily Mail

The newspapers lying on the table are the editions of the Daily Mail that announced:

(a)  The Sinking of the Titanic on April 14, 1912

"DISASTER TO THE TITANIC.  WORLD'S LARGEST SHIP" COLLIDES WITH AN ICEBERG IN THE ATLANTIC DURING HER MAIDEN VOYAGE"   and

(b ) The Crossing of the Atlantic by plane on June 14, 1919

" 'HOW I FLEW THE ATLANTIC' BY CAPTAIN ALCOCK.  BRITAIN'S MAGNIFICENT ATLANTIC AIR TRIUMPH"

The Daily Mail had previously (in 1913) announced a prize of £10,000 to "the aviator who shall first cross the Atlantic in an aeroplane in 72 continuous hours".
