Thank you to Maurice McIlwrick for sending me the photograph above.

Maurice wrote:

"This old picture from the roof of St Giles, I think, came from a newspaper - possibly 'The Scotsman'.

The Sheriff Court Building as it used to be (towards the right-hand side of this photo) was opened about 1935 and was only under construction when the photo was taken.

I went up to the tower looking for the spot and found it! What amazed me was the phone box in both pictures at the same place!"
