Cathedral?
Mike, USA, posted a message in the EdinPhoto
guestbook on July 11, 2013, commenting that the St Giles' web site refers to St
Giles' Cathedral. The address of the web site is
stgilescathedral.org.uk.
Agreed, Mike. It does appear that St Giles' is
officially now being referred to as St Giles'
Cathedral.
I also have a copy of the official guide to St Giles'
which is titled St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh.
So perhaps, I might start referring to it on the
EdinPhoto web site as St Giles Cathedral.

High Church?
The Wikipedia page for St Giles' is titled "St
Giles' Cathedral" but the page begins:
"St Giles' Cathedral, more properly termed the
High Church of Edinburgh,
..."
The next paragraph on the Wikipedia page adds:
"St Giles' has
only been a cathedral in its formal sense (i.e. the
seat of a bishop) for two periods
...
1635-38 and 1661-89".
