Looking to the east along Princes Street
This photo was taken from The Scott Monument in August 2009.
It looks along Princes Street then Waterloo Place towards the monuments on
Calton Hill.
The large hotel in the foreground is The
Balmoral, originally the North British Railway Hotel.
In front of the hotel is the roof of Princes Mall
shopping centre, formerly Waverley Market.
To the right of the hotel is one of the spans of
North Bridge, built 1896-97.
Beyond the span of the North Bridge, the Holyrood
area of Edinburgh can be seen, with the lower slopes of Arthur's Seat, the
Firth of Forth and the coast of East Lothian beyond.
