New Administration Offices
Tanfield House and the
surrounding land at Tanfield was acquired by The Standard Life
Assurance Company as a site for their new Administration Offices.
These offices opened in 1991.
The large stone building, formerly occupied by Morrison & Gibb
was retained and large open-plan glass-fronted offices, with three
domes to let in the daylight were built adjoining the back of the
stone building. The whole complex was named 'Tanfield
House'. |

the site had been acquired by Standard Life and the area behind
these offices had been cleared to allow the development to proceed.

Photo 2 shows is a
similar view, taken a couple of years later, when the framework for
the new glass-fronted part of Tanfield House was well advanced.
Note that the old stone building is to be given a new roof, and a
new wall where the steel structure can be sen on the left.

2006
By around 2006, the number of staff employed by Standard Life (but
not the amount of business being written) had declined, and Tanfield
House was put on the market. It has now (in
2011) been redeveloped internally and split into a number
of smaller offices, not yet all fully occupied. |
