Referendum Campaigns

The photos below were all taken on he two days leading up to the Scottish Independence Referendum on September 18, 2014.

Travelling around Edinburgh before and during the Referendum, I found considerably more posters on display for the 'Yes' campaign, and came across more 'Yes' campaigners than 'No' campaigners in the streets.

That's reflected in the proportion of 'Yes' and 'No' photos that I took.

However, the result of the referendum was a win for 'No'  by 55% to 45%.

Referendum Results

In the run-up to the referendum, most opinion polls had predicted a win for the 'No's by about 52% to 48%.

However, the 'No's won by a slightly wider margin.

The result was:

Whole of Scotland: Turnout 84.6%    Votes:  'Yes': 45%    'No'  55%

Edinburgh:               Turnout 84.4%    Votes:  'Yes': 39%     No'  61%

This page from 'The Guardian' web site shows the Referendum turnout figures and votes cast in each of the 32 Scottish local government areas.
