Edinburgh Riding of the Marches

In the photograph above, riders pass John Knox House.  This photo was taken from the steps in front of the house, as the last of the riders made their way up the Royal Mile

The traffic lights in this photo are at the junction of:

-  Canongate  leading to the east, towards Holyrood Palace

-  High Street  leading to the west towards St Giles Church.

-  St Mary's Street  leading to the south towards Pleasance

-  Jeffrey Street  leading to the north towards Waverley Station.

It is at this junction that the Netherbow Gate once stood, marking the eastern boundary of the old town of Edinburgh.
