The Line
"The picture of a goods train shows
the single-track spur line between Niddrie North and Wanton Walls,
near Newcraighall. This line connected the Lothian Lines from
Leith and Portobello to another line, itself a connecting spur,
from the Suburban Circle to Monktonhall.
It could be used as an emergency
diversion for traffic on the East Coast Main Line (ECML), but was
only rarely used for this."
The Locomotive
"The locomotive is an unusually clean
K3, designed by Edinburgh's own Sir Nigel Gresley, designer of
such Pacifics as 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Mallard'."
