Castle Hill

Castle Hill, now named Castlehill,  is the western end of the Royal Mile as it approaches Edinburgh Castle.

This view looks down from the approach to the castle (now beside Edinburgh's Camera Obscura) towards the Assembly Hall at the top of Johnson Terrace with its high steeple (centre-right in this picture) which has now become 'The Hub' Café, restaurant and ticket office for Edinburgh Festival.

This engraving appears in the book Old & New Edinburgh, published 1890, but is entitled 'The Castle Hill 1845'.
