This view (after Ewbank) looks across Low Calton towards Edinburgh Jail, high on the hill in the background. The prospective appears to have been exaggerated. The jail was on a hill, but not so high on the southern slopes form Regent Road. Behind the jail was Calton Hill - not shown in this engraving. |
