The Royal Mile

Crowds gather to watch the street theatre during the Edinburgh Festival on a sunny Saturday Afternoon in August 2003.

For the duration of the festival each year, the section of the Royal Mile from George IV Bridge (close to the 'Welcome" banners -  foreground) to Cockburn Street (close to the "Haste Ye Back" banner -  background) is closed to traffic and handed over to visitors to perform and watch street theatre

Lower right: Stalls selling goods, just as they did here in the 19th century.

Upper right:  Part of St Giles Church.

Top left corner:  The entrance to the City Chambers.
