The Postcard

Thank you to Mike Kelly for allowing me to reproduce this postcard, No 15 in a series by A&G Taylor, titled

''17th Lancers  -  Death or Glory Boys'

The photo was taken at Piershill Barracks, Edinburgh.

Postcard Messages

The postcard was posted from Edinburgh to Ireland on September 19, 1903.

The message on the front of the card reads:

"My dearest girl.

What do you think of my present Regiment.  They are nice.  Went to their dance last night.  Best fun."

The message on the back of the card reads:

"... at all.  This is the Barracks here.  Will write here.  Regiment leaves for Aldershot December.  Goes to India March.

Roll on.  Love all .....  Tell Mrs L I'm writing.  Love all.  Flo.

Mike Kelly, who sent this postcard to me, added that the message above suggested that the Regiment would be going to India in March 1904.  Yet, according to the Regiment's historical records, they did not go until March 1905.
