Thank you to David Gibson, now living in Perth, Western Australia for

Names
"I went to Preston Street School and then to
James Clark's School, and have just come across some of the old school photographs
that people have sent in.
I was really surprised to recognize myself in
a couple of them. I couldn't stop recognizing and remembering the
names of lots of my classmates, which after all this time seems strange,
as sometimes its hard now to remember what happened last week!!!
A split second after spotting the photo I was
reeling off names like it was just yesterday, not 50 odd years ago."
More Names?
"I think I got more than half the names, plus
names that I cant put faces to and faces that I cant put names to.
If possible, I'd like to try and get in touch with some of the people. -
Walter Bisset, Graham Ross, John Lothian.
Can anybody help to identify any more of my
classmates? I am the idiot who couldn't keep still for a photograph
(front row 1st left)."

Billy Whyte
"Thanks to Hugh Smith on this site and Gordon
Wilson on the Friends Reunited site, I have at long last named all members
of the class of 1958 on this photo.

The last person to be identified was Billy
Whyte. Gordon (also on the photo above) used to sit beside Billy at
Register Class.
For a few years I could not remember any part
of his name then a couple of week’s ago it came to me that his surname was
Whyte as I remember, what I thought was an unusual spelling of his surname
when at school."
|
Donnie Neil
"The only pupil that I remember meeting since
leaving school was Donnie Neil. We worked for the same company for
a short period. Then, I met him again when he was involved in
football coaching as a hobby."
|
St Leonard's Area
"Although I now stay on the west side of the
city, I enjoy a walk round the area and a pint at Jeannie Deans.
I well remember buying 'twopence halfpenny
singles' at the corner shop, which started a habit that lasted 50 years."

Unusual Smell !
"I was looking once again at this old school
photo of Class 2T1A in 1958, and I remembered a very funny incident.
We had a teacher for English, Mrs Dawidowitch.
I don't know how her name was spelt, but it was pronounced Da-vid-a-vitch.
She noticed an unusual smell during our lesson and asked the class if we
knew what it was.
Almost the whole class burst into fits of
laughter and shouted "It's Nilly! (James Nilson). She was very
amused at this and asked James to stand up and explain.
Nilly seemed to have a strange ability to
'fart at will' and by way
of explanation he proudly let off an enormous 'raspberry' which brought
the whole class into complete uproar.
I wonder if any other classmates remember this
incident. I apologise to Nilly if he is offended by my memory, Isn't
it odd how some things seem to stick in your mind and not others?"
Boys' and Girls' Names
"On looking through some of the other school
photos it seems as though the boys cant remember many of the girls' names,
and the girls cant remember many of the boys' names. Maybe there are other
things to think of at this age and the opposite
sex is not one of them - yet !"

'Gathering of Oldies'
"Walter Biset who wrote
Reply 2 above was a classmate at James
Clark School all these years ago. I'd like to contact him to let him
know that there will be a gathering of a few of us oldies early next month
(July 2014).
One of the guys, Bobby Campbell, is home on
holiday from Western Australia and I'd like it if as many of our chums as
possible could meet for the first time in 55 years."

and would like to contact Hugh about his gathering in July,
please email me, then I'll pass on his email address to you.
Thank you.
