W & AK Johnson - Workers Thank you to Agnes Inglis, Dunbar, East Lothian, for allowing me to reproduce this photograph, and to Winnie Lisowski, Dunbar, East Lothian, for sending a copy of the photo to me. Winnie tells me that Agnes worked for W & AK Johnson from 1943 when she started a 4-year Apprenticeship at the age of 14, until 1959. Agnes and the others kept in touch with each other until about ten years ago. Agnes is now aged 83. In this photo, Agnes is 3rd from the right on the back row. Agnes explained that the photo was taken from the rooftop in 1950, and that the photo shows the three balconies at the back of Bothwell Street with washing hanging out, and the W & AK Johnson girls in their overalls. W & AK Johnson - Workers Winnie Lisowski wrote to tell me that she had met Agnes Inglis again and Agnes had given her the names of all the girls in this photo. They are (left to right): Back Row: - Bell Ramsay - May Greenhill - Muriel Peterkin - Agnes Gray (now Inglis) - Madge Masterman - Helen Middle Row - Sadie Thompson - Betty Riley - Margaret Phimister - Jean McCoy Front Row - Margaret Craig - Teressa - Margaret Trainer Margaret has also received a reply from Irene Day. Irene also worked for W&AK Johnson, but more recently, so she does not recognise any of the girls above. However, both Agnes and Irene mentioned that their foreman was Tommy Robertson.
