Thank you to Marion Ramsay, Gorebridge, Midlothian, Scotland for
allowing me to reproduce the photo above.
This is one of the photos found by Marion in her late mother's
belongings. Marion does not know anything about this group, or
whether her mother was connected with it, but would like to learn
more about the group.
It seems likely to me that this group would have been based
somewhere in Leith. 'Persevere' is the motto of Leith.

Thank you to Caron Innes who wrote, telling me who the Miss Shanks
was, whose name appears at the top of this photo.
In fact, the group was "Miss Shanks' Persevere Entertainers".

My Grandmother, Roberta Shanks, is the
lady standing in the centre of the photo, above the two little
girls.
My Gran will be 100 years old on the 28
April 2011. She helped to organise concert parties to raise
money for charities. She was born in Leith.
She was a Highland Dancer and Tap
Dancer, then a Ballroom Dancer."

"I've just found out that the man on the
far left of the picture is Robert Burgess. He was Roberta
Shanks' husband to be - my grandfather.
They met when he auditioned as a
comedian for the Persevere Entertainers."
