Hi Ray:
I believe you are right in recognising these
men as blacksmith workers.
However, I feel that the results of their
work would have been for ships rather than for
horses. Ramage & Ferguson was a shipbuilding yard in Leith.
This is also consistent with the middle line
of this message held by one of he workers in the photo:
R & F Ltd.
