"I
lived at Portobello for the first five years of my life before moving to
The Inch.
Here is
a
photograph of our street party in Ramsay Place. I’m in the
front wearing a coat and clutching my bag of sweeties"

"By
pure chance I discovered this photograph of a street party in Ramsay
Place, Portobello in 1953, posted by Marie Purse of Brisbane, Australia
with the. caption that she thought the 2 boys on the left were James
Lawrie and Hugh Cassidy.
I can confirm that I am on the
extreme left. (JIM LAWRIE, now resident in Musselburgh). I'm not
sure whether or not the boy next to me was Hugh.
I remember Marie Purse very well -
she lived in Ramsay Lane at that time. Her mother Mabel was a great
friend of my late mother. I recall that Marie emigrated to Australia
around 1960 and her brother Billy emigrated some years later."
