Edinburgh from 1893
"My
Great Grandparents came to Edinburgh in 1897 from County Leitrim in the
West of Ireland. They initially lived in Dundee Street, and my Mum can
remember being told by her Father (born in 1894) that the first school he
attended was St. Ignatius in Glen Street.
St Patrick's School
"By 1900, the family had moved to East Adam
Street. They then moved to The Pleasance, then to the bottom
of St. Mary’s Street, ending up at No. 12 St. Mary’s Street.
My
Grandfather and his brothers all attended St. Patrick’s School, at a time
when the school operated in the Catholic Hall in St. Mary’s Street.
Emigration to Canada
"In July 1912, my Grandfather’s sister, Mary
Anne Duffy, went to Canada to take up a teaching position, and appears to
have taken a number of photographs with her, I presume as remembrances of
the family back home. This is one of the photos that she took.

So, I believe that this
photo will date from between 1897 and 1912, and must feature one of her
brothers, though I’ve no idea which one.
I believe that the photo is
almost definitely a class photo from St. Patrick’s, and wondered if
anybody might recognise the subjects."
