Thank you to Ed Thomson, Glamis Castle, Angus, Scotland for sending me
this photo that he took on the Wardie Residents' Club Annual Picnic in
1947..

"This is the Annual Picnic of the Wardie Residents' Club to Edgelaw
Reservoir.
The Picnic
was always arranged by Member, Mr Alexander of the
Water Dept. He is in the centre with spectacles. Willie
Lindsay is second from the left in the back row.
Mr Foley
was correct. Mr Lindsay was principal Art Teacher at David Kilpatrick's.
His daughter was a year below me at Trinity Academy in 1944 and they
stayed in Boswall Avenue.
I have another similar photo taken in 1950,
but this is the best one as it was made up for the Members."

"I enjoyed seeing the
photograph at Edgelaw. It was in fact taken in 1946 by Mr Cowan (back row
left).
Thanks. I previously had it titled 1947 - Peter
Stubbs.
I can remember him getting everyone in
position and then setting the timer on his camera before running in to the
picture.
- I am the little girl in the front row
(Kathleen Frew), aged 4
- My brother (Douglas) is sitting on my
left.
- My Mum (Maymie) is in the first row behind
the children, second form the left
- My Dad (Davie) is in the centre of the
back row.
These picnics were an annual occurrence for
several years, organised by the Discussion Group of the Club
Happy days!"

"Kathleen Leary attributes the
'authorship' of this Wardie Residents' Club Picnic photo to my old friend
and photographic mentor, Russell Cowan, who was at one time a member of a
Photographic Club, possibly in Queen Street.
In fact, on this occasion, he attempted to
take the photo, but, as I
recall, the timer on the camera wouldn't function.
As I had just come from the baker's in
Gorebridge in my wee van with the hot pies, I was co-opted to press the
shutter, so I believe that I can rightly claim to have taken the photo.
This explains why I am not in the photograph."

"What a timely discovery!
I'm now 68 and living in Guildford, Surrey, after periods in Glasgow,
America and Wales.
I'm
now rediscovering my native Edinburgh and two old friends that I knew
between the ages of 7 and 12,
They are
Dougie and Kathleen Frew/ Leary, the
'little ones' featured at the front of this photo.

I met Dougie again at the Heriots
reunion last summer and I've been chatting to Kathleen in e-mails and on
the phone."
