Anderson's Cooperage was
based in one of the large sheds near the Constitution Street
entrance to Leith Docks.

It had been open for about
a year when I visited the company in 1992, its workforce having
increased from one to five, then fallen to three. The workers
were experienced coopers, having previously worked for Kinnairds at
Leith.
The shed was full of old
barrels and straw, with traditional tools still being used.

The note on the door
advertised garden tubs. The office door was kept closed
"to keep out the wild cats".
The company survived until
around the mid-1990s. |
