Wearing a mask for protection against the clouds
of wood flour.
I'm surprised that my camera survived the atmosphere there!

At Work in the Mill
There is a ''Pin-up' calendar in the background
(better seen in Photo 1!)
a common site in most of the workplaces that I visited in the 1990s.

The Scales
It didn't take long from them to acquire a thick
covering of wood flour.

More Machinery
I think these machines were
probably grinding the wood into wood flour. I'm not sure.
The fire hydrant in the background looked as if
it may well be needed at some stage.

It features of one of the company's lorries -
Where and when was this taken.

"That's a great
photo of the Lorry outside Robert Lamb's Mill in Dunedin Street. The
vehicle is a Commer Superpoise Mk II manufactured from 1953. The
registration number (NFS 183) was part of a batch released in 1955 (issued
in Edinburgh).
The square badge on the radiator grill belongs
to Trojan Vehicles, not Commer. This has been added to the vehicle,
probably as a decoration.
**
The information above
doesn't give a year for the photo, but it's probably somewhere
between late-1950's and early-1960's.
The lorry has a few dents in the bumper, so it's not new."

"Comment
1 above states that the sign on the front grille
of this Lamb's lorry was a Trojan sign,
probably put there for decoration.
It is, in fact, a Perkins Diesel sign showing
that the lorry had been fitted with a Perkins Diesel engine which was a
very popular conversion just after the war
Most earlier lorries, and some Bedford buses,
had petrol engines which did not do many miles to the gallon and
conversion to a Perkins diesel was a good way to transform the fuel
consumption and give considerable savings on fuel costs."

Badge on the Lorry
Thank you to Alan for sending me a photograph of the
badge that he mentions above. The badge comprises:
- four large silver circles, as can be seen on the
photo of the Lamb's lorry above, AND
- in the centre of the badge, the words 'PERKINS
DIESEL' surrounded by a silver diamond.
