This photograph looking to the east along Cowgate.  The pile of rubble in the centre of the picture is the fallen front wall of the Gilded Balloon.  The tall light building in the upper centre stands on the east side of South Bridge.  The building opposite it on the west side of South Bridge previously stood immediately in front of it when viewed from this position, but was destroyed in the fire.
