Forth Road Bridge

under construction

June 1963

Thank you to Phil Wilson, formerly of Edinburgh and now living in Aberdeen, Scotland, for allowing me to reproduce two photographs of the Forth Road Bridge under construction in June 1963.  The bridge opened to traffic about fifteen months later, in September 1964.

This photo looks to the NW across the Firth of Forth towards where the bridge meets the coast of Fife at North Queensferry,

Another Photo

This is the other photograph of the bridge under construction, sent to me by Phil.  This was also taken in June 1963.  In the lower-centre of the picture, a queue of cars can be seen waiting to board one of the ferries to cross the Forth to South Queensferry.
