Infirmary Street |
Thank you to Steven Oliver for allowing me to
reproduce this photo of the cast iron lamp columns in Infirmary Street,
Edinburgh.
The View
This view looks to the east down Infirmary Street.
The building straight ahead, at High School Yards,
is Edinburgh University's Department of Archaeology, built in 1777 for
Edinburgh
High School to replace their earlier, but smaller, High School, built
in 1578.

In front of High School
Yards, Infirmary Street turns to the left and becomes High School Wynd,
leading down to Cowgate, opposite
Blackfriars Street.

Lamp Posts Restored
"This
is one of the lamp posts in Infirmary Street. Its column is
by Falkirk Iron Co.
I took the
photograph above in May 2009, not long after new 'teardrop' lanterns
had been fitted to the lamp posts in the street.
