New Street runs to the north down the hill from Canongate, part of the Royal Mile, to Calton Road at the bottom of the valley below. New Street is the western border of the proposed Caltongate development. The Nelson Monument on Calton Hill can be seen in the background. The large brick building on the right is the former SMT bus depot.
Just visible on the left of this photo is scaffolding on the corner of New Street and East Market Street, the site where the new offices for Edinburgh City Council are nearing completion in 2004. |
