"This photograph by Begbie of the
construction of the new rail bridge at Waverley Bridge is said to date
from around the late-1850s.
It shows the central lamp
post in place at Princes Street, but the building that includes Hutton's
watchmakers, in the second photo below has not yet been rebuilt, so the
second photo may, perhaps, date from about five years later."
