Thank you to Richard Torrance for allowing me to reproduce this old photograph of lamp posts in Princes Street at the junction with Waverley Bridge. I don't know the date of this photo, but think it may be around the 1860s. I've contacted Aberdeen University who hold the GWW Collection, to see if they can tell me the date. Alternatively checking in the Edinburgh & Leith Post Office Directories to discover when Hutton Watchmakers had a shop in Princes Street might help to narrow down this date. Richard wrote: |

Mid 1860s? "This photograph by Begbie of the construction of the new rail bridge at Waverley Bridge is said to date from around the late-1850s. It shows the central lamp post in place at Princes Street, but the building that includes Hutton's watchmakers, in the second photo below has not yet been rebuilt, so the second photo may, perhaps, date from about five years later."
