Edinburgh's Christmas celebrations begin on 23
November with the switching on of the Christmas Lights and opening of the
Winter Wonderland Ice Rink in East Princes Street Gardens.

UPDATE
Over 2,500 Santas competed
in the
Great Scottish Santa Run, 2006,
in blustery weather. They raised £40,000 for charity. (The
Metro reported fewer Santas: 2,257.)
Whatever the number, it was a significant increase on
previous years, about 400 in 2004 and 1,500
in 2005.
The world record for the number of competitors is 2,685 is
held by the Swedish city of Bralanda.
