Edinburgh's Christmas

23 November 2006 to 24 December 2007

Edinburgh's Christmas celebrations begin on 23 November with the switching on of the Christmas Lights and opening of the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink in East Princes Street Gardens.

Other events include:

-   French Market  (23 - 26 Nov)

-   German Market  (23 Nov - 24 Dec)

-   Polish Market (17 Dec)

-   Nativity Carol Service  (3 Dec)

-   Santa's Reindeer Garden  (9 - 17 Dec)

-   Great Scottish Santa Run  (10 Dec)

UPDATE

Over 2,500 Santas competed in the Great Scottish Santa Run, 2006, in blustery weather.  They raised £40,000 for charity.  (The Metro reported fewer Santas:  2,257.)

Whatever the number, it was a significant increase on previous years, about 400 in 2004 and 1,500 in 2005.

The world record for the number of competitors is 2,685 is held by the Swedish city of Bralanda.
