This will be the second year that the Edinburgh
Forthside Half Marathon has been staged. There will also be a Family
Fun Run. The events will start at 9am on Sunday April 1, 2007.
An upper
limit of 5,000 participants has been set for the event. There were
about 3,500 participants in 2006.
The
route will again start at Ocean
Terminal Shopping Center in Leith Docks. The route will pass the
Royal Yacht, Britannia. The route will head to the west along the Firth of Forth, through
Newhaven and Granton and
the new Waterfront development, to
Silverknowes, then back to Ocean Terminal.
This
year, the organisers plan to set up an event arena on the temporary car
park in front of Ocean Terminal to prevent the overcrowding problems that
occurred at the first event, in 2006.
They
also plan to improve the arrangements for distribution of water bottles
and timing chips and to draft in extra stewards this year.
The
organisers have put back the date of the event by one week, to April
1, to overcome confusion with the change of clocks for British Summer
Time. Some of the competitors forgot to re-set their clocks last
year and arrived one hour late at the start!
