Expansion Plans Recommended
On October 23, 2009, Edinburgh's planning chiefs
recommended the approval of a proposed £85m expansion of the EICC, despite
objections raised by the heritage body, The Cockburn Association, and
Tollcross Community Council about the scale of both the proposed atrium
and office block.

Decision Delayed
The Planning Committee Meeting on October 29,
2009 agreed to delay their decision on whether or not to approve the
proposed expansion. This would give them chance to visit the site
and consider what could be done to improve the appearance of the
extension.

Approval Granted
The Planning Committee unanimously approved the
proposed expansion plans for the EICC, at their meeting on December 9,
2010. Building work is expected to begin in July 2010.
Karen Wood, head of the EICC 's events team
claimed that they had a queue of large international associations ready to
commit to the EICC in 2013 and beyond.
