Restoration
2005
Marchmont Swimming Baths, Edinburgh, are to
re-open on January 30, 2006, following a £1.5m restoration.
Edinburgh City Council has already completed the
restoration of three other Victorian swimming baths, Dalry,
Portobello and Leith Victoria . Glenogle will be the next for
restoration.
Marchmont Baths is a B-listed building. Its
has intricate mosaic tiling in its entrance hall, and this has been fully
restored by artist and craftsman, Charles Poulsen, working on advice given
by Historic Scotland to ensure that the finished work will be as true to
the original design as possible.
The old Turkish Bath Room has been refurbished to
accommodate an expansion of the Pulse Centre and new changing
facilities and a sauna have been built.
