EDINBURGH TODAY Port Edgar |
Proposed Development 2007 An exhibition has opened at Gallery Café, Port Edgar. It features artists' impressions and maps of a proposed developments at Port Edgar, a former Royal Navy base, immediately to the west of the southern end of the Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry. In recent years, it has become a marina with sailing school. It is proposed to build new shops and restaurants around a major public square at Port Edgar harbour and to install new pontoons to increase the number of berths at the marina from 320 to 500. Major boat storage facilities are also planned. Surplus land has been earmarked for new housing and is expected to be put on the market in March 2006. The total cost of this development is estimated to be £13m, but the council hopes that £10m of this cost will be funded by a new residential development of 150 flats and townhouses at the harbour. Detailed plans for the Port Edgar development are expected to be lodged early in 2007, enabling the work to be completed by 2010. Evening News January 18, 2006: p.25 |
