Buchan's Pottery
Two
kilns, 39 ft high, have survived from Buchan's Pipe Street pottery
works, Portobello. The pottery closed in 1972. These kilns can
be found at the side of the road in Rathbone Place, Portobello, behind
Portobello Funfair.
Collapse
One of
the kilns, dating from 1909, collapsed while being repaired in August
2006.
Restoration
It is to
be stabilised in the short term. The City of Edinburgh Council
then plans to rebuild the kiln, under the advice and supervision of
Historic Scotland.
