Replacement of Lothian Council Offices

George IV Bridge

The decision to demolish the Lothian Regional Council headquarters on the corner of the Royal Mile and George IV Bridge, one of the least attractive buildings in the area was widely welcomed.

However concern has been expressed by Historic Scotland, the Cockburn Association and the World Heritage Trust over a  decision   by Edinburgh Council Planning Committee to approve the design of a new hotel for the site, submitted by Halifax Bank of Scotland

The design has been described by objectors as being a 'Legoland' home.
