Thank you to Doug Imrie for sending me two photos of his great grandfather at work with horse and cart.

"These photos are of my G. Grandmother's brother, John Grody, delivering milk.

I believe that these photos were taken in Edinburgh**, but I cannot find any references to the dairy.  Can you help?"

Reply to Doug

I don't know the answer to Doug's question.   If you know anything about Acme Dairies, please email me, then I'll pass on your message to him.

Thank you.

It looks to me as if it might have been quite a large operation, judging by the fleet number (32) on the side of the cart.

Photo Restoration

I've illustrated the photos that Doug sent to me as I received them in the illustrations above.  They are rather faded, but I felt that they captured the atmosphere of the period well.

I've also used the Photoshop program to do some restoration to the photos.  Please keep scrolling down to see the results.

"Regarding the photos of the Acme Farmers Dairy driver above, these photos are not from Edinburgh but from Toronto, Canada.

My dad was a driver for that company and that was their wagon."

Thank you to Phil for also sending me this photo of a milk bottle top from Acme Farm Dairy:
