Awards

Medals or No Medals?

Several times in the history of Edinburgh Photographic Society, there has been discussion as to whether or not Medals should be awarded in its exhibitions.

19th Century

In the 19th century, there were many classes of entry with Medals awarded for each.

20th Century

EPS continued to award Medals at its exhibitions in the early 20th century, but not in the late 20th century, up to 1993.   This did not seem to deter photographers from submitting their prints.

However, from 1994 onwards, the EPS International Exhibition has fallen into line with other major exhibitions worldwide, held under the patronage of FIAP.  

It has awarded FIAP Medals, FIAP Ribbons, an Edinburgh Medal (for the best print from an EPS Member) and Honorary Mentions.
