Photographer(s)I tried to work out from the information given in the Edinburgh & Leith Post Office Directories (including the Coltart names above) just who the Coltart photographers were and how they were related to each other. I came to the conclusion, mistakenly, that James R Coltart appeared to have been the father of James Coltart. Your notes indicate that James “appears to have been the son of JR [James R] Coltart.” All these references are, in fact, one. My grandfather was James Robert Coltart and he was a photographer who did general studio work and school/team groups." Coltart Shops and Studios "James R Coltart had: - a studio in Dalmeny Street, Leith. - a shop in Duke Street, Leith, selling tobacco products, Meccano and Hornby Dublo. - a second shop/studio, at one time, in Abbeyhill, Edinburgh, but that was before my time and I have no detailed knowledge of it." These businesses were: - 1924-32: J&W Coltart - Photographic & Wireless Dealers - 1933-49: JR Coltart - Photographic & Meccano Dealers - 1950-61: J&W Coltart - Photographic & Meccano Dealers. |
