Valerie
Reid, South of Spain, sent me this photograph of a painting of her paternal grandmother,
Alice Alexander, by J Horsburgh, probably painted 1906.

"I
have reason to believe that my grandmother was a disciple of Horsburgh. I
have some wonderful oils that she painted. I think they were neighbours."

Here, just discernable, is a
signature on the lower-left corner of the painting. Is this likely
to be the Edinburgh painter, John Horsburgh (1835-1924)?
