Thank you to Mac Horsburgh,
Canada, great grandson of the Edinburgh photographer, John Horsburgh
b.1835, for sending me the image of the painting above.
Mac tells me that it is 2 to 3
inches each side, on a kind of hard plastic surface.
Mac originally told me that
the photograph was of 'grandfather Horsburgh', but asked 'Which
grandfather Horsburgh?" He then replied, answering his own question.

"One mystery solved. My aunt
tells me that the painting I sent you is of John Horsburgh,
b. 1835.
I'll let you know if I get more
info related to who painted it. I suspect it is a
self-portrait but it could be that it was painted by his son,
John A Horsburgh, b.1862." |
