The North Bridge

Here is a photograph taken on a dull day in 1954.

This view looks down the North Bridge towards Princes Street and the North British Hotel (now the Balmoral Hotel), the most prominent building in this picture.

Register House is just visible, with its domed roof to the right of the hotel.

The photograph was taken from the Carlton Hotel, across the road from the Head Office of the publishers of The Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News.

[The Head Offices of these newspapers have now moved to Holyrood.]
