Photo 1 "When trawling through some old photos this evening, my wife and I stumbled upon this one ot the Anchor Inn 'Roadhouse' at 114-116 West Granton Road. The gentleman behind the bar 3rd from the right is my wife's father James W. Dickson who worked there. Incidentally he went on to manage the Grey Horse in Musselburgh and then the Salters Inn Woodburn, Dalkeith." Chris Doré, North London, England: January 27, 2012 |

I emailed Chris today to ask him if he knew when his photo at the Anchor Inn might have been taken. Thank you, Chris, for the reply. Chris wrote: |

Photos 2,3,4,5 After adding Photo 1 that Chris sent to the web site today, I went to West Granton Road to see if The Anchor Inn was still there. I was pleased to find that it was still there, and open - so I took Photos 2, 3, 4 and 5 above. Peter Stubbs, Edinburgh: February 2, 2012 |

Photos "The photos on this page brought a smile to my face." Chips "I remember one of the walks with my Mum, as a youngster. On our way up from Granton Square, she said I could have some chips. Being very keen asked if I could have the 6 pence and run ahead to get them. Well I somehow went into the Anchor Inn by mistake. (I was little) I found loads of men and got funny looks when I asked at the counter for six pence worth of chips! Some kind man guided me out and showed me the chip shop further up where my Mum was looking very worried wondering where I had got to! I did get my chips, by the way, in Dimarco's, I think it was - and I never made that mistake again."
