Chancelot Mill
The Clock
"I used
to get the 1 bus along Ferry Rd to school from 1963 until 1975.
The clock on Chancelot Mill was a landmark. It let me judge how long I
had been on the bus and how much longer I had to go. Given that I was
bad with travel sickness, it was a comfort.
I remember the curved funnels which, if you
were lucky, you could see moving around."
The Tower
"The fire was quite upsetting. Each day,
coming home from school, you could see how much further the demolition
had progressed until the awful day when all trace had gone.

I loved that building; it had an elegant
beauty seldom seen these days. A smaller example of the lovely engraving
by the SCWS can be seen on the building which is or was the Head Office
in the street off Lothian Road.
Have you got any staff photos of the folk
who lived there, in actual photos of the inside of the mill. The place
at the harbour they built doesn't hold a candle to it.
