Carnegie Street Late-1950s "This tenement collapse must have been in the late-1950s. I was at Preston Street School at the time. A crowd of pupils went down to see the building at dinner time, as some of our class mates lived in Carnegie Street. Of course, we were told not to go near, but my mother worked in the St Cuthbert's Warehouse in South Richmond Street. I always went down to meet her. Beaumont Place Late-1950s "I know that there was a disaster in Beaumont Place in the late-1950s, when one of the tenements fell. We all went up and had a look at it. I don't know if there were any fatalities. You have some photos of it on the EdinPhoto web site. See below."

Beaumont Place 1959 "I phoned my sister, Ella, in Edinburgh to clarify the mystery if when the tenement collapsed at Beaumont Place. She told me that it was in 1959. I was 11 years old at the time. I can still smell the carnage to this present day." Eric Gold, East London, England: July 3, 2013 |
