Cabinet Prints - Portraits John McKean |

Fronts of the Cabinet Prints From the cards that I have seen it appears that John McKean specialised in photographing groups. See: - large groups in 1, 2, 3 and 5 below. Who are they? - family groups in 4, 6, 10, 11 and 12 below. Most portraits that I have seen from the studios of Edinburgh's professional photographers in the 19th century are of ladies. However, based on the photos that I have collected, John McKean appears to have photographed more men than ladies. |

Backs of the Cabinet Prints John McKean had studios at: - 1882-1900: Junction Bridge, Leith - 1884-1893: Newington I have seen at least ten different styles of back to John McKean's cabinet prints, excluding the various shades of plane back that he used. These different styles of back may well give clues to help with dating photos. It would be interesting to find some John McKean photos with dates on the back then determine which style(s) of back he used in different years. |
