Cartes
de visite were small photos, invariably portraits, produced in
large numbers by professional photographers from 1853
onwards until around 1900.
Thee
photos
were about 3.5 ins x
2.25 ins, and were mounted on trade cards
4 x 2.5 ins. They
were usually sold by the dozen.
Here
are a few examples from Edinburgh studios. I have many
more in my collection. I can add more to this web
site. Please let me know if you have an interest in any
particular photographer or studio. |
