Here is a view
of Edinburgh from Craigleith, about two or three miles to the
north-east of central Edinburgh. The quarry at Craigleith
was the source of stone for building the New Town of
Edinburgh.
The quarry no
longer exists. The quarry has now been filled and is the
site of the Craigleith Retail Centre, comprising a Sainsbury
supermarket and other shops.
In this view,
several familiar landmarks can be seen on the skyline:
-
Calton Hill (to the left of the trees)
-
St Giles church tower (just visible beneath Arthur's Seat)
-
St George's Church (with dome) at Charlotte Square
-
St John's church (with square tower) at West End of Princes
Street
-
Edinburgh Castle. |
